Is pop culture the pro or antagonist?
Hey readers! It's a lovely day to talk about pop culture and its effects on society.
Pop culture is basically modern popular culture converted into the mass media which is projected onto the new generation. It can be a platform such as social media, magazines, music, and television all giving a way for people to voice their opinions or beliefs. It's hard to say whether or not pop culture is particularly bad or good for society, I can definitely say that it's beneficial. some who feel that they don't have a voice in the real world can use pop culture as a way of being heard, however this new version of popular culture can blindside one to forget the mechanics we grew up on. Speaking out for yourself and making a stand in person can make a thousand percent more of a difference rather than just using the media. But without the media we also wouldn't be where we are today, we wouldn't see the ways of society still stuck in its roots from the 1960's. Without the media the things we know today would just fly over everyone's head, be forgotten, or not even believed but because we have proof and once something is posted it's forever public, it can never be forgotten. Here I would say pop culture is one hundred percent of a positive outcome. It gets those who may not know what's going on aware of the world they are living in. Then they go in to have conversations with those who may not be in tact with pop culture but either way the word gets around. back then they didn't have these resources, they had minds full of ideas but all they had was their voice and a pen and paper.
In the 1960's everyone understood what it meant to stand in the face of their oppressors Rosa Parks, Mamie Till, Malcolm X, etc... they all knew what they were risking but they didn't care they still voiced their opinion. In this sense I would say pop culture is the antagonist because in the past they got things done! They didn't accept what wasn't equal and they let it be known by peace rally, marches, boycotts, and sometimes even violence on violence. In pop culture and the target audience being Gen Z, everyone uses the platforms of social media, magazines, and clothing to get their points across which can make us lose sight of what's really important. Not the views or retweets or compliments on your outfit but the people around you actually hearing what you're trying to say. Society has made this such a norm that it feels it no angers needs to take action. How then will we really make a difference? the issue is resolved now but what about tomorrow or next week. I feel as though pop culture softens what is trying to be said but it also gets it to be heard in case it is missed. It's not whether it is "bad" or "good" its whether we are using our resources properly.
Good points. Make sure you are using ALL of the sources from the module and crediting them in the entry.
